Semba-Style Mackerel Soup

This soup was an everyday dish of merchant families in the Semba district of Osaka, who prepared it using salted mackerel. After eating the broiled mackerel, the bony parts would be added to a soup as flavouring together with daikon, a long white radish.

This recipe uses fresh mackerel instead of salted mackerel. The soup is so delicious you won't believe it is made from mackerel stock.
